Angiotensin II Antagonists 

Indications 

Treatment of hypertension. 

Dosage 

Adult 8-16 mg once daily. Patients w/ severe renal or hepatic impairment: Start w/ 4 mg once daily. 

Contraindication  

Pregnancy, lactation. 

Precautions 

Patients w/ bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis of the artery to a solitary kidney. Correct intravascular vol status prior to treatment. Concomitant administration w/ K-sparing diuretics. Perform periodic monitoring of serum K & creatinine levels in patients w/ severe renal dysfunction. Patients suffering from haemodynamically relevant aortic or mitral valve stenosis or obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. 

Adverse Reactions  

Back pain. Very rarely: Leukopenia, neutropenia & agranulocytosis, hyperkalaemia, hyponatraemia, increased liver enzymes, abnormal hepatic function or hepatitis, angioedema, rash, urticaria, pruritus, renal impairment, including renal failure in susceptible patients. 

Drug Interaction 

K-sparing diuretics, K supplements, salt substitutes containing K or other drugs that may increase K levels, lithium, other antihypertensives.
