MIMS Class:

Calcium Antagonists

Indications:

Treatment of CHD: chronically stable angina pectoris, unstable angina pectoris including vasospastic angina. Treatment of hypertension (K10 & T20). Hypertensive crisis & Raynaud's syndrome (K10).

Dosage:

5 mg cap 5-15 mg tds. K10 cap 10-20 mg tds. T20 SR tab 20 mg bd, may increase to 40 mg bd.

ADMINISTRATION:

May be taken with or without food (SR tab: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.).

Contraindication:

Cardiocirculatory collapse, of higher grade aorta stenosis. Pregnancy, lactation.

Precautions:

Markedly low BP (severe hypotension w/ < 90 mmHg systolic pressure), decompensated cardiac insufficiency.

Adverse Reactions:

Dizziness, flushing, headache, hypotension, peripheral oedema, GI disturbances, increased micturition frequency, lethargy, eye pain & mental depression.

Drug Interaction:

Antihypertensives, quinidine, phenytoin, theophylline, terbutaline, salbutamol, cimetidine.
